HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum:
PIII 500MHZ, 128MB of RAM, 100MB of free HD space.
Recommended:
at least P4 1.5GHZ, 256 MB of RAM, 100MB of free HD space.
The oldest machine I have run BSA on is a PIII 500MHZ with 256MB of RAM. If you only open 1 bible translation at a time, you may be able to get by with 128MB or RAM. As with any program, the more memory you have, the better performance you will get.
All systems will require a sound card for the MP3 player and a video resolution of 1024x768 minimum.
SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
BSA is written to use Microsoft's .Net Fremework v2.0. Your system will need to have this installed. If not, the installation program will install it for you. Installation of the .Net Framework requires Windows Installer 3.1 which will automatically be installed with the .Net Framework.
NOTE: Administrative rights to the computer is required to install the .Net Framework.
Operating System
Windows XP is recommended. With XP, the only additional software you should have to install is the .Net Framework v2.0 if it's not already installed.
The software will run on Windows 2000 Professional. Win2k Pro requires the following components to be compatible with the .Net Framework 2.0:
At least Service Pack 3
Microsofts MDAC 2.6 or higher.
Internet Explorer 5.01 or higher.
If you are running Win2k Pro and you don't have SP3 or higher installed, you'll find SP4 on the CD. MDAC 2.8 and IE 6.0 SP1 are also included on the CD for your convenience. They will not install automatically. You will need to install them before the .Net Framework 2.0 will install.
Any Win2K Pro system that is up to date should already be running these components.
BSA will not run on Windows 9x or ME.
INSTALLATION
If you are replacing an existing version of BSA on your computer, uninstall the previous version first before installing a new version. It can be uninstalled from the Add Remove Programs applet of the Windows Control Panel
If you obtained BSA on CD, insert the CD and the installation routine should automatically begin. If not, run the setup.exe program on the CD. The installation wizard will lead you through the process. You must agree to the License Agreement before the installation will complete.
If you downloaded a Zip file from the Internet, unzip the contents to your HD and then execute the setup.exe file. The installation wizard will lead you through the process. You must agree to the License Agreement for the installation to complete.
If you need to install Win2k SP4, execute W2KSP4_EN.exe in the Win2kSP4 folder.
If you need to install MDAC 2.8, execute the mdac_typ.exe file in the MDAC28 folder.
If you need to install IE 6.0SP1, execute ie6setup.exe in the ie60sp1 folder.
The longest operation during the install process will be the installation of the .Net 2.0 Framework. This will take several minutes to install itself. Even when installing it on a 3.0 GHZ P4, you'll probably receive a message indicating that the installation is taking longer than expected.
UNINSTALL
You can uninstall BSA using Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel. This will remove all BSA related files except for the Verse Notes data file. By default, this file can be found as
MyDocumtents\BibleStudyAssistant\VerseNotes\versenotes.mdb
and can be removed manually.
Uninstalling BSA will not remove the .Net 2.0 Framework. This can also be uninstalled using Add or Remove Programs. However, since this Framework can be used by many programs, it's best to just leave it in place once it is installed. It doesn't use up any memory unless you run a program that actually uses it.
